Dormer

A dormer loft conversion extends vertically from a sloped roof with the wall of the new structure projecting at a 90 degree angle to the floor. Internally, a dormer conversion creates a significant amount of additional headroom, with vertical walls and horizontal ceilings, which allow for ease of furniture placement within your new living space.

Dormer loft conversions in Surrey

A dormer is probably the most common type of loft conversion that people tend to opt for. This is generally because most houses will be able to accommodate them and again, they can often be completed under permitted development, in the majority of cases. If your property does require planning permission for a proposed dormer, then we will be able to assist you with this, so please do get in touch. The only type of property that wouldn’t really be suitable for a dormer conversion would be a flat roof; a double mansard conversion would be more common in this instance.

Another reason dormers are so popular is because they are probably the most cost effective per square metre in terms of the expense of installing it versus the amount of space you will gain. With a dormer you are able to create a really versatile space capable of providing room for any number of different functions.

Some people find that the perpendicular angles of a dormer conversion can make it look a little box like, especially if the extension is completed with a flat roof. However, the impact of this can be minimised by using appropriate materials to allow the extension to complement the rest of the house more easily. Also, the vast benefits of having such an improvement in additional space quickly compensates for any such misgivings.
